I am learning that it is all about the soil and what you plant them with…everyday I am simply amazed.

Have you figured out some companion planting that helps? I’d love to grow lettuce. I tried cabbages last year, and they were huge, but they had (gross alert) sluggy bugs all through the layers of the leaves.

Yep. Besides the soil, this year the companion plantings seem to have made a difference. We planted beets, carrots, camomile, parsley, bee balm, flax and green onions, in amongst the different varieties of lettuce greens. The husband states that he is noticing much less buggage on the lettuces this year when he is picking and washing them. We have noticed also a vast increase in the beneficial insects this year as well. Lots of baby preying mantis, blue wasps and garden spiders.
